OK, an Authentic Adult Woman, in my book, speaks with her own voice, acts on her own authority, listens to her own body and gives it what it needs, eg: food, nurturance, cherishing, comforting, excitement, joy, etc. She protects her bodysoul from invaders and sabateurs. She is "one in herself"...she doesn't need others in order to be whole....although many other people and ideas have helped her become an authentic adult woman.
So imagine my surprise when I observe hundreds of women saying identical things about what they want their own homes to look like...
Lately I've been captivated by House and Garden TV...where couples are shown 3 houses anywhere in the world and pick the one that pleases them most. And almost every couple, worldwide, from wealthy New York buyers to humble prairie folks...want granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, usually cherry cabinets, tray ceilings, hardwood floors and gigantic walk-in closets. WHY? Is it sort-of like Barbie dolls for grown-up women...to want identical IN things?
OK ...hardwood floors and walk-in closets are lovely, BUT granite is so HARD, and busy, and stainless steel is so masculine and commercial, and cherry wood is so DARK....
WHAT ever happened to homey, bright, cheerful kitchens with table cloths and pot holders and violets on the window sills? My kitchen has, I confess, cream-colored wood cabinets, periwinkle blue tile counter tops, maple butcher-block island, ivory appliances. (and old oak-pegged floors) And a round breakfast table with a sunny yellow cloth. It feels so light and welcoming...folks like to sit around on the soft old oak armchairs with castors....and look out at the ocean.
plants and artifacts on the kitchen sink! A real NO NO.
My garden isn't in fashion either, but I love it. Some folks think geraniums are a cliche :(
And you never see pictures and stuff on the modern stainless fridge...but hey, I'm 76!
